The Namesake
Bir Sreshtho ("Supreme Hero") is Bangladesh's highest military honor, awarded posthumously to seven martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman was born in 109 Agasadek, Old Dhaka on October 29, 1941. He defected on August 20, 1971, by hijacking a T-33 jet trainer from West Pakistan across the border to join the Mukti Bahini: Bangladesh's liberation forces. Pakistani Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas attempted to retake control, leading to both pilots' martyrdom in Thatta, West Pakistan.
Matiur Rahman was 29 years old.
In 1973, he was honored Bir Shreshtho for his heroism. After 35 years, in 2006, the Bangladesh government finally brought Matiur's remains from Pakistan for burial in Mirpur Buddhijibi Koborstan (Graveyard), Dhaka with Guard of Honor.
This foundation bears Matiur's name to ensure his legacy of sacrifice and service endures, not as a monument, but as action.

Our Mission
As set out in our constitution, the foundation is a non-political, non-profit charitable institution working — regardless of religion, caste, or colour — to secure food, shelter, healthcare, education, and employment, and to foster self-reliance. That mission is delivered through thirteen focus areas, grouped into three pillars:
Education & Awareness
Scholarships, stipends, and institutional support — from school uniforms and exam fees to educational institution grants — building an illiteracy-free, profession-conscious society. Focus: Education.
Health & Humanitarian Relief
Medical treatment, Zakat, Ramadan and Qurbani distributions, and rapid disaster relief for the sick, the vulnerable, and families in crisis. Focus: Medical, Zakat, Ramadan, Qurbani, Humanitarian Aid, Natural Disaster.
Livelihoods & Self-Reliance
Interest-free loans, housing, employment support, monthly grants, and social-development projects that help families build lasting self-reliance. Focus: Interest-Free Loans, Housing, Employment, Monthly Grant, Social Development.
